The advertising research firm Borrell Associates recently issued a forward-thinking report entitled "2015 Outlook: Local Digital Advertising" which thoroughly examines digital advertising and marketing. This examination is broken down into four distinct areas: email, data streaming, display, and paid search, with total local advertising forecasted to expand into the $115 billion stratosphere.

Explosive growth of digital marketing

From Borrell’s report, you can see that digital advertising has seen a 42% growth over last year, and at that rate will account for 40% of all market spending by local advertisers. This digital advertising explosion is triggering the growth of four types of companies, the first of which is the traditional media company, still largely slaved to the analog world, but testing the waters of digital media.

Secondly, there are the traditional media companies which are very excited about digital media, but for whatever reason are unable to wholeheartedly immerse themselves in it.

Next are those companies which see the enormous possibilities of digital media, and are currently investing heavily by securing necessary personnel and acquiring other companies.

The final category consists of the so-called Internet 'pure plays', which are those thousands of companies wholeheartedly behind digital marketing, and accounting for three quarters of all dollars invested in it.
